Sunday's Tri- Fixture friendly at Gunton Park

As the September sunshine shone across the pitches at Lowestoft and Yarmouth RUFC it was wonderful to see so many players and supporters pouring into the club from home and away.
This was a big day for the players of L&Y Colts who were facing competition for the first time after months of training during a time of uncertainty for all.
As the boys pulled on their blue and white shirts, courtesy of Junx Clothing and Octopus Bar & Restaurant, it was clear to see they were excited by the occasion and keen to prove the training had not gone to waste.

This was a three-way pre-season friendly against Southwold and Norwich RUFC Colts.
First up, naturally, was the home side against a well-seasoned Southwold Colts team.
For the first five minutes it looked like the L&Y boys were holding their own with lots of ball possession in the Southwold half. The squad seemed determined to show what they were capable of to the home crowd. But after only 10 minutes Southwold broke through to score their first try and with a secured conversion the boys in blue and white didn’t get the start they were hoping for. Despite defending strongly, a Southwold team on the front foot were dominant in the rucks which led to more possession for Southwold and ultimately more points on the scoreboard in the first half.
The second half saw much of the same but the resilience of a young, developing L&Y squad saw them throw everything they had at Southwold unfortunately with no points to show for it.
The eventual result was a good win for Southwold with some areas to work on for L&Y.

Next up were Southwold and Norwich.
Southwold were keen to maintain their winning streak and with an enthusiastic Norwich team keen to show their capability, this led to a very even competitive and exciting game with the score still 0 – 0 at half time.
Norwich were as determined as ever during the second half and it took all of Southwold’s experience to finally break Norwich’s defence to win by a narrow margin.
The final clash was between L&Y and Norwich - both teams well-known to each other.
The L&Y team ran out of the dressing room with a renewed vigour, keen to show their supporters they were more than capable of this win.
And sure enough, the team showed an energy and confidence the supporters have come to expect which led to an early score from L&Y in the first half. L&Y continued to hold possession of the ball for the majority of the first half with Norwich digging deep in defence.
Second half Norwich returned to the pitch with a keenness to balance the game, but the L&Y defence held strong throughout and gained momentum to further increase their score with a converted try.
With the last few minutes of the game to play Norwich dug deep and managed to get across the try line and convert.
Eventual result was a good win for L&Y.
The event proved to be very entertaining for both home and away supporters with some excellent rugby on show by some young developing players from all three squads.
Southwold v L&Y – 43 -0 / Norwich v Southwold – 0 – 7 / L&Y v Norwich – 12 - 7
