Lowestoft & Yarmouth RUFC Schools Programme
At Lowestoft & Yarmouth Rugby Club, we’re passionate about introducing the next generation to the game we love. Through our Schools Programme, we’re bringing rugby into classrooms and playgrounds across the local area — helping more children discover the fun, friendship, and values of rugby.
Delivered by our dedicated Community and Schools Rugby Coach, George Tomlinson, the programme has been running since November 2022 and now reaches over 20 local schools. George leads PE sessions and after-school clubs for pupils aged 8 to 15, working 4–5 days a week during term time. His sessions focus on teamwork, respect, and enjoyment — the core principles of the game.
George also supports our youth training sessions every Sunday morning (10:00–11:30am) at Gunton Park. This continuity helps children move seamlessly from school rugby into the club environment, where they’re welcomed by a familiar face and encouraged to keep playing.
The programme is supported by regular inter-school fixtures and festivals held at Gunton Park during the Autumn and Spring Terms. These popular events feature schools from across the region playing everything from tag rugby to full-contact XVs, making great use of our excellent pitches and floodlights.
Our aim is simple:
To give every child the opportunity to experience rugby — and a clear pathway to continue their journey as part of the Great Rugby Family here at Lowestoft & Yarmouth RUFC.
