3rd Game in the 2022 Plate tournament - L&Y v Crusaders

Fielding a full squad, L&Y headed out to face the Crusaders team looking positive and ready to play in their pristine playing kit, sponsored by Octopus Restaurant and Junx Clothing. The last few meetings of the two teams had always seen a competitive match but resulting in an L&Y win. This was no different, although Crusaders could only muster a team of 13, L&Y in their usual sportsmanship fashion lent a player and agreed to play a 14 a side game.

From the kick-off, L&Y headed into the Crusaders half of the field and with a strong defence Crusaders held them off for a time and showed that they had no intension of letting L&Y have an easy day at the office.

L&Y continued to push hard using the pack to push Crusaders back time after time before switching play to the backs which resulted in the first points going to L&Y. Crusaders restarted with an aggressive push into L&Y territory, but it was to be short lived as L&Y consistently broke the Crusaders line to increase their score as the clock ticked by. Crusaders however, managed to catch L&Y off-guard to get their first try of the match before half time.

The second half saw a re-gathered Crusaders team make it far more of a challenge for L&Y. They managed to get another try but it was not enough to stop the L&Y well drilled team increasing their points. With strong tackling from the whole team, dominating in the rucks, they made it impossible for the Crusaders team to get a foothold.

A tremendous team performance from L&Y with every player showing their worth and with this alongside well planned moves, they controlled the game from start to finish. Crusaders must take credit for not giving up and playing hard right up until the final whistle.

A solid performance, a great turnout of players and a well-earned win for the boys in blue and white. Final score 48- 10 to L&Y.
