The first half was a closely fought contest, L&Y opened the scoring. A good line break by fly-half Darren Wilson disrupted the Holt defence, L&Y continued to move the ball quickly and Alfie Webber crashed the ball in, bouncing a defender and scoring the first of the game. Darren Wilson then converted for two.

Holt responded well to the deficit and began to grow into the game, being awarded a scrum 22 metres out. The home team then played the ball out wide through the hands and scored in the corner to bring them within two points of L&Y.

The rest of the first half was very end to end but neither team had the finishing touches to capitalise on the pressure.

Half-time 5-7

Holt started the second half ferociously. They had L&Y pinned within their own 22 for an extended period. However, L&Y stood firm and kept them firmly locked out. Alfie Webber then put L&Y on the front foot with a fantastic carry, tearing his way through a number of tackles bringing L&Y deep within Holt’s territory. Darren Wilson then popped the ball to the onrushing James Horton who had made a fantastic run from deep. The fullback used his momentum to burst up the pitch and slide over the try-line to score. Darren Wilson then converted again for another two points.

Lowestoft and Yarmouth continued to pressure Holt. Despite the wet and greasy conditions, L&Y showed great skill to pass the ball through the hands where Tommy Bolger caught the ball out wide. He used his strength to break through one tackle and hold off the last defender to score in the corner.

Holt began to grow back into the game. The home team made a fantastic line break and good support meant they were able to pop the ball off before being brought to the floor. The Holt player took the ball the rest of the way and, despite being pressured from L&Y’s defence, just about managed to score to bring Holt back into the game.

L&Y regained control of the game and manage to close the game with a final try. After a series of crash balls a few metres out from Holt’s try-line, L&Y decided to spread the play. Darren Wilson received the ball and looked to pass it out wide, however at the last second an opportunity presented itself. The fly-half injected a sudden burst of pace onto the ball, muscling his way through a crowd of bodies over the line to score a well-deserved try. Darren Wilson then converted his try in what was the last play of the game.

Full-time 10-26

It was an incredibly good display from Lowestoft and Yarmouth 2nd XV who were relieved to have bounced back after a couple of unfortunate results. The two Man of the Match awards were awarded to Alfie Webber and Darren Wilson.
