Determined L&Y show fighting spirit

After their impressive victory against Holt III’s, Lowestoft and Yarmouth sought for another victory at home to Beccles. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for the home side, however, they put up a good fight in what was a thrilling match.

Lowestoft and Yarmouth would like to send best wishes to the Beccles player who sustained a very nasty injury in the early period of the game, we wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back out on the pitch soon.

After a challenging start to the match, Beccles found rhythm and their pressure was rewarded with a try. After winning a scrum on L&Y’s 22, Beccles used their forwards to carry the ball further up the pitch. They then used the width to spread the ball out wide where they scored on the wing. The try was then converted for an additional two points.
0-7
Beccles maintained their pressure and soon found themselves in a position to score again. Following a successful lineout within 10 metres of L&Y’s try line, Beccles were on the front foot. Once again, they used their forwards to carry them further up the pitch and a quick pick and go saw them take the ball over the line for their second of the game. Beccles successfully converted for another two points.
0-14
After another plethora of crash balls, Beccles where on L&Y’s 5 metre line. The away side then used their width well, spreading the ball out wide where the winger stepped inside, and fought his way through contact to score. Once again, Beccles converted for two points.
0-21
L&Y found themselves back in the game just on the stroke of half-time. After being awarded a penalty deep within their own territory, L&Y decided to run the ball out. The ball found itself in the arms of Toby Mancini on the halfway line and the winger harnessed his pace to breeze past a handful of Beccles players, before he stepped back inside to take himself past the last defender and score in the corner.

Half-time 5-21

L&Y showed fantastic tenacity in defence, withholding a lot of pressure from Beccles and holding up a try. However, the away side returned the following goal line drop out well and were soon on the front foot again. Beccles then found space in the defensive line and went through the gap, despite pressure from the covering defenders, they managed to ground the ball just over the try-line.
5-26
L&Y where quick to respond. A deep kick from Beccles was returned by L&Y and carried back into Beccles territory. The ball was then passed to Keiron Baldry who stepped away from a tackle allowing him to use his pace to burst through the heart of the pitch. He showed great determination after being brought down just short of the try line to get back to his feet and dive over the line to score. Darren Wilson then converted to lower the deficit by a further two points.
12-26
L&Y, now with momentum in their hands, continued to pressure Beccles. After a lineout on the halfway line, L&Y played the ball out wide. Unable to find a suitable opening, Darren Wilson decided to take the ball in himself. The fly half showed dazzling feet to dance his way through a crowd of bodies. He then carried the ball from halfway, breaking through another tackle in the process before offloading to Harry Postill who was free to score beneath the posts. Darren Wilson once again converted to bring L&Y right back into the game.
19-26
Despite the hard work from L&Y, it was Beccles who had the final score of the game. After an incredibly strong scrum, Beccles were awarded a penalty. They took the penalty quickly and crashed the ball over the line for the final try of the game. Beccles then converted to extend the score.

Full-time 19-33

Overall, it was a tough day for L&Y, however, they stuck at it until the very end in what was a very physical game. Man of the Match was awarded to both Henry Tomlinson and Harry Postill.
