An amazing day for girls rugby...

The L&Y girls squad, known as the Dragons have grown in numbers in just over a year and we are proud to say that we now have three teams at U12, U14 and U16 age groups.

The U14’s and U16’s have teamed up with Beccles RUFC and Wymondham RUFC Girls sections this season the create “The Titans” enabling all three clubs to compete in the Inaugural Eastern Counties Girls Conference Cup on Sunday 26th March 2023. The U14’s team missed out on the Cup but came away with victory in the Plate final meaning they finished as 3rd best team in the Eastern Counties. The U16's also had an amazing match and showed everyone how much they have progressed over a short amount of time. All teams made the coaching teams very proud.

The newly formed U12's came along to the day to train and play some small games with other U12's teams in the region; some stayed to help cheer on the older teams in their matches, with some being water girls.

We are also very proud to announce that "The Titans" squad also came away with “The Eastern Counties Spirit of Rugby” award for their efforts in bringing the 3 clubs together as a successful unit; all the messages and calls and nights of planning really have paid off.

To top the day off L&Y’s very own coach, Shelly Peck, won the award for Eastern Counties Coach of the Year, we couldn't be more proud.

The teams are looking for further success later this month when the U16’s compete in the Norfolk Cup Semi Final and the U14’s in the Final of the same competition.

We always welcome new players of all abilities to join the squad – from School year 7-11, please contact girlsrugby@lyrufc.club or check us out on Facebook (Lowestoft & Yarmouth RUFC Dragons) and Instagram (lygirlsrugby).

We would like to thank our main sponsors East Coast College, Morgan Cooper Ltd, BFS and Coastline Carpets for their ongoing support alongside several local businesses this season.
